How to Wear a Scarf with a Suit

What do you do when you want to look your very best and rock a suit, but it’s nearing below freezing outside? If you still want to feel like your movement is not completely restricted, rather than wearing a mountain climbing waterproof jacket over the top of that freshly pressed suit, you may find that wearing a scarf helps keep the cold at bay while giving your style and swagger an extra dimension.

Like many people though, scarves may fill you with dread because you just don’t know what to do with them. That’s why we’ve put together this brief but helpful guide, that will make sure you avoid those scarf faux pas and look as cool as you feel.

Simple but Effective Slip Knot

One elegant scarf knot that can stop the cold in its tracks and is quick and simple to execute is the slip knot.

First, fold the scarf lengthwise in half and then fold it again so that you have what resembles a loop. Now dangle it around your neck so that the hoop is one side of your shoulder and take the other end and move that towards the looped end. Now pass it into the lop and then tighten the loop to finish it off.

Wrap Around

The wrap-around looks more impressive than the steps actually involved in creating the look. Drape your scarf around your shoulders so that it hangs around your neck equally on both sides. Then you need to take one side towards the other side and pass it over that side before wrapping it around the back of your neck to the other side. To finish, simply adjust each end so that they are at the length you prefer.

Ascot

This is another certified classic, that if you pull off, you will win the day. Drape your scarf around your shoulders so it is hanging equally at either end. Then take one end and cross it over the other. Now pull the end you started with through that opening you created when you crossed it over and make the necessary adjustments, so it is even at both sides. Now adjust the knot as required and tuck it below the lapels of your suit jacket.

Infinity

Another stylish way to rock a scarf that is actually quicker and easier than many men think. Drape it around your shoulders and make sure one side is longer than the other. Now take the longer side and wrap it around the shorter side. Continue this process until you run out of fabric and then tuck the ends in.

The Classic and Exceptionally Simple Drape

The last in our guide is for anyone that prefers something more simplistic and don’t want to worry about untying and tying knots. However, this is not the best option if you are looking to stay warm in winter and looks best when you keep your jacket open. Simply fold your scarf lengthways in half and let it hang down at equal length on both your shoulders.
